Dear Friends --
Thanks to so many of you for reaching out this week, knowing that the Met Gala is upon us.
Tomorrow is indeed Game Day (switching metaphors, because that's what ladies with stage IV cancer get to do). My buddy John reminded me this is technically an away game now that I'm headed up to UCSF, so tonight I'm packing my visitor team jersey and all kinds of other items for my weekend hospital bag.
Some have asked about the tick tock. Here's the likely scenario:
I'll arrive at UCSF at 6am for pre-op fun.
7:30am I'll be in the OR and in the good hands of the ever-terrific and highly skilled Dr. K(2).
Surgery time will probably be 2-3 hours.
Recovery after that, and I'll likely be in the hospital until Monday morning
Covid = no visitors, so I'll become fast friends with all the nurses this weekend.
I'll also be looking forward to all kinds of texts, and hellos, and anything that might prompt a smile or a laugh.
My sister Mindy has volunteered to guest host the blog tomorrow afternoon to give the quick report from the field. I may write after that. With a bevy of pain meds in my system, what could possibly go wrong?
Thanks for all the continuous love and virtual hugs.
More soon. Climbing ever higher and higher. Upward.
xoxo
P.S. I got a Covid test this week. It's not terrible! Everyone should get one. Oh wait ...
